Valentine's Day!

l   o   v   e

On Valentine's Day during the day, a few of us from our newly formed Bible study group ( Sarum, Carmen, Kevin, Zach, and I) got the pleasure of taking candy, cards, and flowers to elderly widows, including Zach's grandmother and great-grandmother and my Granny. It was so sweet to see their reactions and hang out with them a little bit.

...................................................

Later that evening, Zach brought flowers to my house, gave me the cutest box of candy and stuffed dog, and took me to J&S (FAVORITE) to eat dinner. It was very yummy. Then we went to Putt Putt! [[All of this was a surprise...I had told him the only thing I HAD to do was see Safe Haven.]]
Putt Putt was really fun, and after that we went to starbucks before seeing Safe Haven.
It was wonderful and I'm so obsessed [[In fact, I'm gonna dedicate a whole post to it soon!]].

We had a great Valentine's Day. I love surprises, and Zach even made this little chart for when we played Putt Putt and for each hole-in-one I got, I'd get a "prize" like free dinner or a BELK GIFT CARD! Unfortunately, my Putt Putt skills were rusty because we hadn't played since the summer, so I only got 2 hole-in-ones as opposed to the usual 18.

Zach and I also got each other fill-in-the-blank "what I love about you" books. We saw them at Barnes & Noble one day and had to get them! We didn't fill in ALL the blanks in each one, because it will be fun to fill them in here and there :)

Zach with the card I made him :)

yay!!

Monday Motivation

There's something I absolutely love about the calmness of a Monday morning.
Usually, I go work out, but this morning I had a doctor's appointment. Afterward, I went to Michael's and Target. It was pretty early, and the only people out shopping were young moms with young, cute kids. I wasn't in a hurry, I was just browsing.  With a hectic and busy life, it's nice to have some time like that.
Picked up some new acrylic paints at Michael's. Didn't get tempted to buy anything at Target.
The sky was calm and overcast. Everything was quiet.
I love Monday mornings.

And here's your Monday Motivation for this week:

Friday Five

Since it's the last Friday in February, today's Friday Five features five fun things I've done this February
(how about that for alliteration??)

On February 1st, Zach and I celebrated our 2.5 years. We ate at Ruby Tuesday the night before, and being the kid that he is, Zach wrote on my plate with ketchup :)
We also started our morning workout routine on February 1st and had Waffle House after.

On the weekend of February 8th, our church had its annual DiscipleNow weekend, which is always very moving and powerful.  I was delighted to help out again, this year with high school girls. We always meet cool people from Liberty University and our youth group grows closer together and closer to God. The leaders get to bond as well! It was a great weekend, and we could definitely feel God's presence as He moved among us.

Also that weekend, Granny, Ashley, Zach and I went to the circus! I feel like I'll never be too old for the circus. It's still the greatest show on Earth to me! The tigers and elephants are my favorite. I'm so fascinated by them! And all the colorful lights... Yes I'm a kid at heart. Not ashamed! Love the circus. We had a great time.

Last weekend, I got to go to my third Rascal Flatts concert! It was a spontaneous decision that my friend Meghan and I made, and we dragged our boyfriends along (haha). At the concert, we ran into Callie and her cousin Maggie! The Flatts put on a great concert as usual, and it made me think of my very first RF concert SEVEN Februarys ago (WOW). I will never, ever get tired of Gary Levox's voice and "Fast Cars and Freedom" will ALWAYS be my favorite country song!! It was amazing.

And also this past weekend, Carmen, Katherine and I made an impromptu trip to Wilmington! Partly inspired by Safe Haven, the day-and-a-half trip was relaxing and fun. I had never really spent much time in Wilmington, so it was cool to see what it was all about. We walked around UNCW (I'd never been there before), ate some yummy food, and got to briefly see the beach! We also got interviewed by the local newspaper while we were on the beach. We stayed with Carmen's sister and her cute kids, who live there. It was a fun, quick trip!

Those are only five great things that happened this month. As usual, I have a lot of catching up to do! My next post will be all about my wonderful Valentine's Day, and I will have to blog about Safe Haven, because when I say I'm obsessed, that's a gross understatement.

Happy weekend!!

Here I Go Again on My Own

"Here I go again on my own,
Goin' down the only road I've ever known.
Like a drifter, I was born to walk alone..."

That's what I'm listening to right now, and what I've had stuck in my head all day.
I'll be the first to admit, I love that song.
The original is good, but I fell in love with it when I heard the version from Rock of Ages
(Don't see the movie; just buy the soundtrack. Save yourself the trouble and get straight to the good stuff).
I am in love with Julianne Hough's voice.

But listening to this song reminded me of something:

No matter how hopeless things may have seemed in the past, or how hopeless they may seem in the future, I am never, ever alone.

"...lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world."
Matthew 28:20

Isn't that comforting?

And that, folks, is my two cents worth for the day.

Recycled Love Post

For day three of my "love blogs," I decided to bring back a survey I took last year for Valentine's Day! With the exception of question 11, this is exactly how I filled it out last year, and the answers haven't changed. Just thought I'd post it again to celebrate this year :)

1. How long have you and your significant other been together?
Zach and I have been together since August 1, 2010

2. How did you meet? {What's your "love" story?}
Well, during my second sophomore year in college (hahaha) - Spring 2010 to be exact - I had a radio show with two friends, Shannon and Nick. One Friday night in March, Nick decided to bring his friend Zach to Libby Hill Seafood (where I work) to visit me. From then on, things just kinda grew...Alex and I hung out with Nick and Zach and their friends a lot, and by June, Zach and I decided that we really liked each other :)

[[mushy mushy]]

3. If married, how long have you been married? If not, is this the guy you hope to marry? {do tell}
Not married, but he's definitely a prospect ;)

Haha jk...

Zach is everything I've ever prayed for in a guy, so I think that God is probably telling me something.

4. If you are married, where did you get married at? Big or small wedding? If not, where would you like to get married? And will it be big or small?
I want a HUGE wedding, and I want it to be in a large, traditional church (i.e., my childhood church home, Green Street Baptist)

5. Do you have any nick-names that you call one another? Do share!
Ummm...he likes to call me C.O.W. - Crazy Old Woman.
So loving hahaha

6. Name 3 things you love most about your honey.
1. The thing I love most is his love for God and the way it exudes from him through his everyday actions. To me, that is the most important attribute to look for in a significant other.

2. I also love his sense of humor - that is a must. I love to laugh. I have to laugh. Sometimes he acts like he's 12 and I love that.

3. I love how much we have in common, but also our differences. For example, we're both very childlike at times, and we both know how to be serious when we need to be. But when it comes to math, business, finances, whatever, I know nothing and Zach is great at all that.

7. Tell us how he proposed? Or your ideal proposal?
I'm not gonna lie - my ideal proposal would be with a flash mob singing "Everlasting Love." JUST LIKE ON THAT TV SHOW!!!!!!!!!

8. Is he a flowers and teddy bear kind of guy for v-day, or strawberries, champagne, and rose petals?
Flowers and teddy bears, definitely. And not just on special occasions - a lot of times I get stuff like that just because. That's the best.

9. Are you a sunset dinner on the beach kind of girl, or pop a movie in and relax on the couch?
BOTH! I like to have the best of both worlds.

10. Tell us one thing you'd like to do with your significant other one day. If you could do anything? Go anywhere?
Star in a movie together (get us the hook up, Chanelle)

11. Tell us what you plan on doing on this Valentine's Day.
SEEING SAFE HAVEN!!!!!!!!!!!!
and taking Valentines to some elderly women that we love :)

12. Are you asking for anything this Valentine's day?
Noooo. Just a fun evening :)

13. Give us one piece of advice of keeping a relationship strong and full of love.
PRAY TOGETHER. Keep God first in the relationship, and if it's His will, everything else will fall into place.

14. Show us a picture of what love means to you.

This picture means love to me. It is a telegram that my grandfather sent my grandmother many Valentine's Days ago. This is their first Valentine's Day together in Heaven. They were a wonderful example of Christian love and devotion in a marriage, and I hope that one day my marriage will be just as wonderful as theirs was.

Godly Relationships

"love blogs" day 2

Disclaimer: I am in no way perfect. No one has a perfect relationship. I am growing and learning, just like anyone else.

but

Many years of mistakes and learning experiences have taught me a few things about relationships.
And I'd like to share some of them, and give advice (and you didn't even have to ask for it!).

And when I say "mistake," I don't mean mistake mistake. I mean "learning experience." Everything that has happened to me has been for my growth and made me stronger. Don't equate "mistake" with "regret

And like I said, these are just a few. Just a few.

Mistake #1: Dating someone because he's popular.

Don't date a guy because he's popular. Often times, popularity is a negative thing. Especially in high school boys. Just saying. I've found that the very best guys don't have that many guy friends because they don't conform to the norm, and therefore aren't popular.
[[I will say, though, that there are exceptions, as there are to any rule, and I'm not about stereotyping. That's not what I want to do here.]]

Mistake #2: Dating someone because he has a nice car/truck.

This is just dumb. If the only reason you're dating someone is because of his means of transportation, you're shallow. I've done it. I've been shallow. NO GOOD!

Mistake #3: Thinking you can change someone.

Don't date someone because you like most things about him, but he has a few things you don't agree with, and you think you can change those things. Nine times out of ten, you can't

Biggest Mistake: Thinking I had control of my own destiny.

I'm not in control. God is. And I failed many times to realize and acknowledge that. I thought I could pick who I would be with and I could control how the relationship went. But no.

Biggest Biggest Mistake: Dating someone who wasn't on fire for God

Okay, so maybe I could've just shared that mistake because that one mistake is the main issue with all of these.
For me, as a Christian, I should've looked for ONE thing every single time I thought about dating someone. I should've asked myself, "Is he on fire for God? Is he saved? Is he going to respect me as a woman of God and treat me accordingly?"
But for a while, I didn't. I thought I could date any guy and that my relationship with God would rub off on him, and he'd have a relationship with God because of me.
That is 99% of the time NOT how it works!

It wasn't until a few years ago that I realized that (or finally listened to what I'd heard all my life)
if I was really patient,
and if I prayed specifically for a godly, funny, sweet, thoughtful guy,
and if I didn't date anyone else unless they were all these things,
and if I made SURE that the next guy had a good relationship with God,
then God would send me someone who was a million times better than
anything I'd ever expected or asked for.

Right now, take a moment to re-read the quote on the picture at the top of this blog.

I can guarantee you girls/ladies/women that if you first work on your relationship with the Lord, and make sure it's right, and focus on Him, and pray for His will for you as far as a mate, you'll be in the right spot.
I personally believe that God prepares a man and a woman individually before He allows them to have a relationship. If your priorities are right (and we all struggle with this, I know), you'll seek God first. Praise Him for what you have. Ask Him for what you desire. But make sure you have a good, strong relationship with Him first.
Give Him FULL CONTROL.
And wait.

While you are doing this -
He is preparing the RIGHT man for you. After all, He knew before you were even created who He had planned for you!
Isn't that awesome??
He is working in that guy's heart, and preparing his heart to love you in the best way possible.
He is preparing that guy to respect and honor you, just like He is preparing you to respect and honor that guy.
He is drawing that guy close to Him and guiding him to make the right decisions, and feel convicted when he doesn't.

So eventually, and ONLY ON GOD'S TIME - NOT ON YOUR TIME,
you will meet this special guy.
Let's back up. I said ON GOD'S TIME.............

So many girls want to be married by a certain time and have kids by a certain time. Everyone has a life plan. But guess what?!?!? That plan means NOTHING! God is sovereign, and His plan is the only one that means anything.
We think we know what's best for us, but we don't.
God not only knows what's best for us, but He often times keeps us safe from harm by allowing certain events that WE think are tragic or not in our plan.

God can allow a bad breakup to make room for someone 100 times better.

Also, GOD IS IN CONTROL. Remember that.
Remember that.
Remember that.
Remember that.

Give it up. Give it all to God. Give God 100% control.

And see what happens.

Friday Five / Born this Day

Friday Five

Today is James Dean's birthday, Bethany Hamilton's birthday, and Gary Coleman's birthday!

James Dean - a legend. Enough said.

Bethany Hamilton is SUCH a great role model, not just for young girls but for everyone. She was thrown a giant obstacle and she overcame it through Christ and now has a wonderful testimony!

And I have been watching Different Strokes with Granny a lot over the past few weeks, and I remember why I used to love it so much! We joke that my boss looks just like Gary Coleman HAHA.

Also, I've been tanning over the past few weeks, and it really relaxes me and helps me fight my winter blues. I love it! (at The Tan Line in HP)

Lastly, I got this book last night BECAUSE I HAVE TO SEE THE MOVIE THE DAY IT COMES OUT and for the first time in about ten years (no lie), I actually have time to read for pleasure. For the past few years, it's always been reading for school. I just read the first chapter, and I'm super excited about it already! I LOVE Nicholas Sparks! Six more days to finish the book!!

More TBT

ALSO.......

On this day 10 years ago, my awesome Bible study group had a sleepover. We went to Olive Garden in Winston-Salem at Hanes Mall. It was a two-hour wait. We were a group of like 12 (?) 8th grade girls and our two 11th grade leaders.

Margaret and I decided to share a plate of shrimp cooked in wine, but we were legit worried that we would get drunk from eating this shrimp, and I kept asking the waiter if that was true.

HAHA.

The sleepover was amazingly fun (obviously...because I still remember it really well!).
We watched Lilo and Stitch and Like Mike and just hung out and acted like 8th grade girls act.

life is so much fun when it's simple and sweet!

Throwback Thursday!

"Throwback Thursday" could technically just be a "Memory of the Day," so I'm confusing and frustrating myself. Let's just do it this way:

Every Thursday, I find a random picture or two and write about it. That will be "Throwback Thursday."

For "Memory of the Day" blogs, I will write about bigger events in my life, and these will be on random days when I feel like writing other than Thursday.

(Just trying to get my blog life organized.)

With that being said, I'll continue with my TBT post.

About two years ago (give or take a few days), Zach and I went to Four Seasons mall in Greensboro to just spend a day shopping and walking around.

We went in one store that had tons of cute stuff, including letter magnets. So Zach, being the creative and sweet person that he is, decided to make a cute little acrostic-type thing:

It was a super fun day. I love shopping with Zach.

Also for Throwback Thursday, I'm remembering the time that Nina (( http://ninaconcepcion.blogspot.com/ ))
came to visit us in HP! We had so much fun. This was 2 years ago and some change (January 2011).

We went to Steak n Shake, played games like "Would You Rather" and "Make it or Break It," her ad Chanelle came to a one-act show I worked on at HPU, we obviously went to Feeney's with Boots and  Alex (and my sister),
and other fun things!

Oh what fun :)

HAPPY FEBRUARY!

February 1st!

February 1st is gonna be my "New Year" ...meaning starting today I'm gonna get serious about doing the things I want/need to do this year. The first thing I'm gonna do is start getting up before 10:30 every day (or most days at least...some days ARE good for sleeping in...). I'm already doing well with some of my resolutions, but January is kind of a recovery month for me and my post-Christmas depression, so February is a good time to get serious.

This February 1st also means that Zach & I have been dating for two and a half years!
We celebrated a bit tonight by going to eat :)

For some reason, I just love the first of every month. Like I love the fact that my phone says
"Fri Feb 1."
It's not only a FRIDAY, but the first day of the month.
And I feel like it's gonna be a good one!
I'm not good with change, but I really like a fresh start with months.
If that makes sense.

.......probably not.

anyway,

HAPPY FEBRUARY ♥
