Stop Putting it Off!!

I just wrote a post about prayer, but I have more to say.

How blessed are we to have the absolute PRIVILEGE of being able to speak to the Creator of the universe, any time we want to?!

Thinking of prayer as a privilege really puts it in perspective. In the Old Testament, they had to go into temples and special places just to talk to God. They had to take a bath before, and all this crazy stuff (I hope I'm not making this up...seems accurate).

Now, we can literally talk to God anytime, anywhere.
SO WHY DON'T WE?!?!

We forget.
We have pride and think we can handle everything by ourselves.
We underestimate the power of prayer.
We get busy.
We don't know what to pray?

The Lord knows your heart. Talk to Him. Say anything. Tell Him how you feel, what's frustrating you, what makes you happy... Thank Him for what He's done. Ask for what you want. He can give you what you want if it's His will.

You don't need batteries or wifi or to take a bath first. You don't need to be perfect.

JUST PRAY! BECAUSE JESUS DIED SO THAT WE CAN!

Pray, and see how much better you feel, talking to God about things.

Kill the Comparisons

"Perfection is my enemy"...that's a line I heard in an old song on the radio the other day...

We live in a world of comparisons. That's no doubt. I'd say in the past year I've fallen more victim to these comparisons than I have in the past five. I remember always comparing myself to others when I first started college but after that I was pretty good about being satisfied with myself and content in what I had.

Lately I've been doing a lot of reading that encourages people (especially millennials) not to get caught up in social media, because doing so causes you to constantly ask yourself "Is my life as exciting as this person's? Am I as pretty as she is? Why does he have this and I don't? How did she get that job? How is her house always so clean??!?!?" ...etc. This mindset is the opposite of what the Lord intended. He created each person on this earth in a different way to serve a different purpose and to be content in their uniqueness. S…

Your Dearest Wish Will Come True

Last night I went to see Seussical the Musical at Wesleyan Christian Academy with Joellyn. The play was in the chapel, where I used to sit and listen to sermons as a toddler going to church at First Wesleyan, and where I went with my class at school every Thursday afternoon for chapel service kindergarten through sixth grade. It felt so weird and cool to be back there after not darkening the doors in so long. As we watched the play, I thought of something:

This time fifteen years ago, I was a 10-year-old fourth grader anxiously waiting for my biggest dream to finally come true. I remember sitting in that chapel in the months and days leading up to Ashley's birth and thanking God for answering the prayer I'd been praying so fervently for years.
It was this time FIFTEEN years ago that we were so anxious to meet the little baby that would one day be my best friend. She was a week late, and we were getting impatient!

I thought of these things last night - fifteen years later, b…

October!

October is my favorite, and I'm known to go all out for it. I think these two pictures should speak for themselves - the first is from last week. It was the warm-up PowerPoint I made for my classes. The second is my October celebration / 'outfit of the day' post from October 1st two years ago.

October is just so great. So many fun things happen. It's so beautiful outside. The weather is usually great - not too hot or too cold (when it's not raining for 11 days straight...). The leaves look gorgeous and the air is crisp. People travel and do cool festive things. MY BIRTHDAY IS OCTOBER 30TH. This October has already been great... excited for the rest of the month!!
